Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule

The official list below only shows time periods that are reserved and not confirmed exams. Please confirm with your teacher whether or not the final exam for the course will be scheduled during this time.

Before you register, make sure to review the Goethe exam guidelines and terms and conditions on each individual exam page. Make sure you register for the appropriate level of the exam.

Locations

The Exam Schedule lists locations where DEP conducts operator certification tests. Please visit the individual exam pages for more details regarding exam content, exam terms and conditions, and other guidelines. If you require special accommodations due to a chronic illness, visual or hearing impairment, contact the exam provider directly and be sure to provide a detailed document upon registration.

Faculty can view their exam times by using the "View My Teaching Schedule" task on the Faculty Dashboard in Workday. The Registrar's Office also has a list of exam times for courses that are required to be tested under NYSED regulations. Final exams for evening classes are scheduled during the regular class meeting times of the final exam weeks.

Registration

The exam schedule is available online and students are encouraged to look it up. In addition to the exam schedule, students should also familiarize themselves with the exam guidelines, the terms and conditions. They are available on the individual exam page. Students acknowledge having read and accepted the conditions and terms of registration.

Exam locations will do their best to accommodate students who have special requirements. The nature and severity of these needs should be declared on the registration and verified by a doctor's attestation. The locations of the exam must respect and maintain confidentiality.

If students are scheduled to take three exams on the same day, they should contact their instructor or department in order to schedule a make-up test. It is possible to have three exams on the same day. However, this could result in a lot of stress and can affect the quality. The professor may not be able to give an opportunity to take a makeup test on a different day.

Before taking the exam, students must prepare by studying their course material and practice their German skills. The exam is a paper-based test that tests the ability to read, speak, and write in German. The exam results are reported on a scale of A1 to C2. Students who pass the test are awarded the Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate demonstrates the achievement of language level A1. This level corresponds to the first stage of the six-level scale of competence laid down in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The exam is free of charge. Students must bring a valid government-issued ID to the test. Students who do not have a valid picture ID will be disqualified.



Fees

If you have completed your studies at Elan Academy and wish to be awarded a Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (start German 1), you'll need to pay the exam fee. This fee is in addition the cost of the course.

Practice tests let you get a feel for the style of the questions, their wording, and the difficulty of the questions on the test. They help you assess your understanding, find areas of weakness and increase your chances of acing the exam.

Please note that the fee for exams is non-refundable. Exam results are only emailed and not via telephone.
